"The building building."| 23 April, 2011 12:23 This one has been in the works since January and nearing completion. For those who appreciate Photoshop, each building shown required multiple layers and treatments. Pennsylvanians, particularly those from Philadelphia or Harrisburg, will recognize some familiar landmarks...
Eastern State Pen.| 13 March, 2011 17:28
Just finished creating a gallery of images shot at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. While I'm not big on photographing tourist spots, this place is a photographer's dream. Dark and creepy, even in the daytime. Admission costs extra if you care to take a tripod. I didn't, but probably would if I had more than a couple of hours to spend there. The gallery items were shot about two years ago. I've been working on several for quite a while, and finally thought they were ready...
Before and after.| 05 March, 2011 09:03 "Little devil" is the image that earned a Gold Award in the Digital Manipulation category of COLOR Magazine's March issue. Surprisingly, the first question some viewers as is: "Has she been manipulated?" (Thankfully, such a being doesn't exist.) The second question is: "How did you do it?" "Little devil" is a combination of my two favorite pastimes: street photography and digital manipulation. I found this young lady and her mother in the Harrisburg train station. With her mother's permission, she was happy to strike several poses, which I was happy to shoot. Nothing remarkable, so far. It was at about this same time that I had discovered the magic of Photoshop's liquify filter for altering facial expressions. Within a few hours (and many variations) I had a truly devilish creation. I liked it, but it wasn't necessarily what I set out to create. Often images like this happen through experimentation with a new technique or effect. As usual, achieving the basic look is accompanied by lots of detailed dodging, burning, and other enhancements before I call it finished. The last question that viewers usually ask is: "What did she really look like?" Have a look at the final product on the home page as compared to what originally came from the camera...
"The Office."| 12 February, 2011 13:47 "The Office." is still under construction, but nearing completion. Too much time on my hands... or is there a hidden meaning here somewhere?
Good news...| 09 February, 2011 15:48 Most fine art photographers know that good news doesn't come every day, so please don't accuse me of shameless self-promotion when I announce that one of my photos will be featured as a Category Gold Award winner in the upcoming Single Photo issue of COLOR magazine. One of 15 Gold winners, they say, from over 2,000 images received. This will be the second placement in COLOR. The first, "The babysitter," adorns my homepage... I must admit to being new to blogging (you're reading the first entry ever), but would welcome visitor comments about my work (your courteous honesty is appreciated)... or about the current state of photography in general. I'll save my rants on the latter for future entries... Soon I'll be sharing progress on two new creations gotten underway within the past few weeks. Thanks for viewing, listening, and sharing... Jeff
